Children and their families helped to put up Christmas decorations to turn Fairmile Grange into a winter wonderland for the residents.
Sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends, and loved ones of residents at Fairmile Grange, off Royal Close in Christchurch, were welcomed into the care home to lend a hand with the decorations.
The residents’ relatives, who wore Christmas jumpers and Santa and elf hats for the occasion, helped to hang baubles, lights, and tinsel onto the home’s Christmas trees. Fairmile’s Wellbeing team played festive music to boost the mood during the activity which helped the residents to count down to the big day.
Kim Butters, Wellbeing Manager for Fairmile Grange, said: “We had such a lovely time welcoming in our residents’ families to help us get our care home ready for Christmas.
“Thanks to their help, we now have a wonderful ‘winter wonderland’ for our residents to wake up to every day. It has lifted their spirits to decorate Christmas trees with their loved ones as they did as children themselves and in later years, so it was lovely to help them continue those special traditions.”
It was an extra special day, as this is the first Christmas since the pandemic that our care home residents could invite their relatives to the home without any government-imposed restrictions. All visitors are still asked to wear a face mask, to limit the residents’ risk of exposure.
The Christmas decorations were just one activity in a calendar of festive activities planned by Fairmile’s Wellbeing team in the lead-up to the big day. Other activities include Christmas crafts, a Christmas party, gingerbread decorating, live Christmas music performances, a visit from a pantomime dame, Christmas card making, quizzes, jigsaws, and a trip to a local garden centre to visit their Christmas display.
Our team provides care for residential, nursing, dementia and Alzheimer’s, palliative, and respite residents. This includes a dedicated Wellbeing team in each care home who are on hand to organise fun activities to support each resident’s physical, emotional, and holistic wellbeing.
